Seawalls/Public Safety Infrastructure

As Town Meeting Members are aware, last term Jim successfully filed and advocated for passage of legislation that assists coastal communities with borrowing for seawall repairs.  In addition, Jim worked to secure $100,000 in emergency funds to assist in the repair and ultimate reconstruction of the segment of seawall in the Fieldston section of Town.  This session, the FY ’12 Budget included language he authored to require that the state Department of Conservation and Recreation detail a plan for long-term funding solutions for seawall repair and reconstruction, with a plan due by July 1, 2012.  Foremost in this plan is legislation Jim filed to create a “Public Safety Infrastructure Revolving Fund.”  This program, when implemented, will disperse grants and low-interest loans to communities with damaged coastal infrastructure as well as inland structures, i.e. dams.
